The Chairman of the Board of KTZ visited key railway infrastructure facilities in the Almaty region.

During a working visit, Elzhas Otynshiyev, Chairman of the Board of JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, inspected the operation of railway facilities in Almaty and the Almaty region.

In Almaty, the head of KTZ visited the Zhetysu logistics complex, which covers an area of ​​9.8 hectares. Its design capacity is 115,000 TEUs per year. The complex includes container and truck yards, a 23,300 square meter warehouse, two railway tracks, and a temporary storage warehouse.

At Almaty-1 station, Elzhas Otynshiyev inspected the hump yard, which processes and breaks up freight trains around the clock. The hump yard’s handling capacity is 1,659 cars per day.

The station is designed to simultaneously handle up to 66 pairs of freight trains and 34 pairs of passenger trains. 340 employees work here. They handle car handling, train formation and breakup, and the delivery and removal of cars to and from sidings.

At the Almaty Locomotive Depot, Elzhas Otynshiyev familiarized himself with the company’s operations. The depot serves the Almaty-Shu, Almaty-Saryozek, and Almaty-Altynkol routes. It employs approximately 860 drivers and assistant drivers. The depot operates TE33A and KZ8A series locomotives and SKD6 shunting diesel locomotives.

At the depot, a train interval system designed to increase network capacity was presented. The system is used on the Zhetygen-Altynkol section. Its key element is a tailing semi-complex, installed on the last car and transmitting information about the train’s integrity to the locomotive. The system allows for real-time monitoring of the train’s completeness and improves traffic safety.

Elzhas Otynshiyev also inspected the progress of the reconstruction of Almaty-1 Station. The platform foundation has been completed, construction and finishing work is ongoing, and utility lines and walkways are being upgraded. The station’s floor area exceeds 17,000 square meters, with a daily passenger flow of over 6,000.

For the duration of the reconstruction, the passenger boarding plan has been modified. Temporary navigation signs have been installed, and ticket offices and temporary waiting rooms are open. Elzhas Otynshiyev instructed that the work be accelerated and the established schedule adhered to.

In the Almaty region, the company executive inspected the renovated Kazybek Bek station and the construction of additional tracks. The station building, built in 1960, has nearly tripled in size following the modernization, reaching 236.7 square meters. The interior, platform, and surrounding area have been renovated, and new equipment has been installed.

A meeting with contractors implementing major railway infrastructure projects was also held at Zhetygen station.

In particular, the construction of the 75-km Kazybek Bek – Zhetygen bypass railway line was discussed. This project will relieve congestion at the Almaty railway hub, increase throughput, and reduce freight transit times along the China-Europe and China-Central Asia international transport corridors.

Projects for the construction of the 127.6-km Darbaza – Maktaaral and 323-km Moiynty – Kyzylzhar railway lines were also discussed.

The meeting focused on project deadlines and the quality of work performed.

Following the working visit, a meeting was held on the operation of the Almaty railway hub. The main topics discussed included organizing transportation in the Almaty region, increasing the capacity of the railway infrastructure, implementing projects to develop the Almaty hub, reconstructing station complexes, and ensuring traffic safety.
