KTZ and Azerbaijani partners discussed the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) and logistics infrastructure

A working group of JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), led by Deputy Chairman of the Board Yerlan Koyshibayev, paid a working visit to Baku.

As part of Samruk-Kazyna’s commitment to developing transport and logistics infrastructure, the delegation held a series of meetings with key partners and discussed projects related to the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

In particular, KTZ, continuing its work to build an external terminal framework along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) route, visited the port of Alyat to inspect the port’s terminal facilities and discuss prospects for joint logistics projects. These projects will become important links in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) and leverage the synergies of key logistics hubs in China, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan, contributing to the expansion of transport infrastructure capacity and increased traffic volumes along the route.

An important part of the visit was a meeting with Vugar Mirzazade, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON). The parties discussed the further development of cooperation and the creation of a unified cargo flow management system. Particular attention was paid to the synchronized development of the two countries’ logistics infrastructure, expansion of port capacity, and fleet development. The need for dredging in port waters to accommodate large-capacity vessels was also discussed. A meeting was also held with Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways (AR). The parties discussed the current state and prospects of their strategic partnership in rail transport, as well as joint measures to attract additional freight traffic on the Trans-City Transport Route.

The working visit confirmed Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan’s strong interest in deepening cooperation and accelerating the development of their joint logistics infrastructure.

Reference: In the first seven months of 2026, transit traffic on the Trans-City Transport Route amounted to 36,000 TEUs (350 container trains). Compared to the same period in 2025, container traffic increased by 50%, and the number of container trains increased by 82%. During the first seven months of 2025, 24,000 TEUs (192 container trains) were transported.
