NEW LOGISTICS TERMINAL TO BE BUILT IN ALMATY
On October 27, 2023, a project to build a logistics terminal and create a modern platform for transport and logistics services and e-commerce in Almaty was launched.
The project is implemented by KTZ in cooperation with Xi’an Dry Port. The new terminal will be created on the basis of the freight terminal of KTZ’s subsidiary organization Kedentransservice JSC.
At the ceremony of launching a new joint project attended by the leadership of JSC «NC «Kazakhstan Temir Zholy», the party committee of the CPC Xi’an and the Dry Port of Xi’an.
Almaty, being at the crossroads of major international routes, is the most important transportation and logistics hub.
Implementation of the project is aimed at expanding the capabilities of the cargo terminal infrastructure, which in the future will allow to store and process significant volumes of cargo in temporary storage warehouses, increase cargo handling time, which directly affects the timeliness of delivery of goods, as well as meet the needs of the market, especially the e-commerce market.
The development of terminal and warehousing capabilities will allow to successfully consolidate cargoes from almost all regions of PRC in the mode of import hub for consignees of Almaty city and Almaty region.
On the territory of the 10-hectare terminal it is planned to build modern warehouses with the use of temperature control technology (1400 m2), class «A» warehouses for storing tare and piece cargoes and e-commerce cargoes (36,000 m2). The Chinese side proposed to use robotic warehousing capabilities.
The project also provides for a container yard (12,000 m2 ), with the installation of an electric gantry crane with a lifting capacity of 50 tons.
Realization of the project will give additional impulse to expansion of transit-transport potential of the country and strengthening of trade and economic relations between Kazakhstan and China.
