From Xi’an to Almaty: New Zhetysu Container Terminal to Receive Its First Container Train
On June 1, 2025, the first container train departed from a joint freight terminal in Xi’an (PRC) en route to the Kazakhstan-China Zhetysu terminal in the city of Almaty. The new terminal is scheduled to be commissioned on June 10 of this year.
The Zhetysu terminal will become the largest container hub in Almaty, specializing in the consolidation and distribution of imported goods from China. Its infrastructure allows for terminal handling of cargo transported by rail and road to and from China.
The complex will offer a full range of logistics services, including warehousing, customs clearance, and “first and last mile” delivery.
Thanks to its strategic location at the intersection of key international transport routes, the terminal will serve as a central consolidation point for freight flows and a leading logistics hub in Kazakhstan.
The creation of a sustainable synergy between the logistics nodes of Almaty and Xi’an will ensure effective integration into transregional supply chains.
The project aims to develop modern infrastructure and reduce logistics costs.
